SPREAD THE WORD
As we count down the days till October 24th, now is the time to take to the streets to build the buzz for your action. Here are 6 simple ideas for creative ways to get people interested. The more silly the better. Doing things creatively and differently gets people's attention, and makes them want to know more about the event.
1. Make Posters! Hand made posters stand out and help grab attention - especially if they are colorful. They can be made by simplying using housepaint on newspaper. You can also use simple techniques such as stencils or potato prints to help you make lots of posters quickly. Posters can be put up around town using wheatpaste - a natural, washable glue made from flour. You can also print out these posters and paste them up. (TIP: Cut flaps into the bottom of posters that people can rip off and take home with them. Put contact information or the website on these flaps).

2. Big Numbers! You can easily create big numbers out of cardboard and they can be easily painted with house paint. These are great for public places - parks, malls, shopping centers, universities - because it makes people curious about whats going on. So they walk right up and ask. Painting these is great, because you don't have to worry about staying in the lines! (Tip: Mounting the cardboard on a piece of wood makes it more sturdy and easier to hold).

3. Top Hats! These top-hats can be made quickly out of cardboard and add an element of street theater to the task of handing out flyers. Helps you to stand out in a crowd!
4. Banners! Follow these simple instructions to make a banner to publicize your action. Ask to hang the banner outside your school, church, park or community center - or hang it out your window!. You can also use this banner on October 24th. (this banner was made just with tape!)

5. Garbage Instruments! You can make musical instruments out of anything! Find two sticks and a bucket and you have a drum. Find 5 of these and you have a marching band (Tip: attach a string to the bucket to go around your neck). Shakers can be made by filling empty soda cans with rice or gravel and taping the top. You can even use pots and pans to make sure you get noticed, and can be used again at your action! Make few of the instruments, and create a small procession to get some extra attention as you spread the word.
6. Headbands! This is a quick and easy way to make your group look united as you pass out flyers or approach people to tell them about your action. This can be made quickly and easily using this stencil or by using potatoes prints.
These projects are also great ways to get people involved in the activist process, to build solidarity, and to create art that can be used for your action. The best way to start this is to organize an "Art Build" and to invite friends. In a few hours, with a few materials (cardboard, paint, fabric) you can make visuals that will help you creatively get many more people involved. And its FUN!
Invite the Press, organizing a "lead-up" event is a great way to get an article about your event published in a local paper or mentioned on local radio. Remember: the more colorful, creative and vibrant your actions are - the more likely they are to be covered in the media.

Understanding 350
- So, what is global warming and what's the problem anyway?
- And what does this 350 number even mean?
- If we're already past 350, are we all doomed?
- How do we create the political change to steer towards 350?
- How do we get the world on track to get to 350?
- How do we actually reduce carbon emissions to get to 350??
- Will this thing work? Will world leaders listen?
- Where did this 350 number come from?
- Isn't America the biggest source of the problem? What about China and India?
- 350 is just a number. Wouldn't "Climate Emergency" or "Clean Energy Now" be a better call to action?
- And what about all the other targets people are aiming for?
- Why October 24th?
- Why another organization--there are already too many things going on!
- Do you measure 350 in CO2 or CO2e?
