Salem's Getting to Work
Sunday, 10 October, 2010 - 10:00 - 18:00
Join us to weatherize a local home for energy savings or to plant trees, and then celebrate a day of accomplishment! No experience is needed, in fact this could be a great learning opportunity!
Meet under the wooden archway/gate at the edge of the Salem Common, next to North Washington Square at 10 am.
Home Weatherization "Barn Raising":
One group of volunteers will work to weatherize a Salem home at (16 Lee St. in N. Salem) to make it more energy efficient. More experienced volunteers will lead teams, and everyone will learn valuable skills that they can take back to their own homes.
Planting Trees:
Meanwhile, two another groups of volunteers will be planting trees in Salem neighborhoods in need of greenery, on Jefferson Ave and Harbor Street.
Green Living Day:
Whether or not you can volunteer, try going low carbon for the day! Walk or bike instead of driving, use a reusable shopping bag and water bottle, take a shorter shower, turn off the lights when leaving a room, use the stairs instead of the elevator, buy local and avoid packaging in things you buy, etc.
After the work parties are finished, come celebrate with fellow volunteers, have a chance to win RAFFLE PRIZES from local merchants (like Cody Brewing Company, Coven cafe and bake shop, EMS, Beehive/Roost, and Cornerstone Books) and enjoy FREE APPETIZERS at the Green Land Cafe in Salem! http://thegreenlandcafe.com/index.htm
