Project Act: International Day of Climate Action
Project Act, an environmental initiative by Beyond Borders, will launch its ‘Go Green Now’ campaign by participating in the International Day of Climate Action on the 24th of October 2009.The International Day of Climate Action is geared towards creating a global movement to create awareness on climate change and to push for effective action at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December 2009.
The Launch Event
Beyond Borders hopes to promote eco-friendly living and create awareness about climate change, as well as show Sri Lanka’s support towards positive climate change policy through this event. It will feature:
- A Demonstration to spread the word about Climate Action
- A Beach Clean Up. (Wellawatta)
- Forming a giant human 350 on the beach for an aerial photograph
- Giveaways of 350 plants (Adopt a Tree concept)
- Signing a pledge towards eco-friendly living
The event will be rounded up by forming a human 350, a photograph of which will be sent into www.350.org , to indicate Sri Lanka’s participation in the global 350 movement.

Project Act will takeoff on the 24th and its activities will last until the 24th of March 2010. Its ultimate goal is to make significant inroads into creating widespread use of good waste management techniques in order to promote greener, more environmentally harmonious living in Sri Lanka.
Project Act: International Day of Climate Action is organised by Beyond Borders, a voluntary, youth-led, youth-run initiative active in Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh and (formerly) in Pakistan & the UK. Based on the working themes of Identity, Diversity and Active Global Citizenship, Beyond Borders provides a space for young people to actively express themselves and take action on development issues affecting them. Currently the group is working on issues related to peace, governance, citizenship and sustainable development. This event will be carried out in partnership with the Environment Programme of the Consortium of Humanitarian Agencies (GTE) Ltd.(technical assistance) and Sri Lankan Youth Climate Action Network, Sri Lankan Climate Champions, British Council, the Interact Movement and the Roteract Movement.
The Project is funded by a grant from the United States Department of State.
