Transition West Marin 350 Climate Action

Transition West Marin will hold a Climate Action Demonstration, Rally and PowerDown challenge. There will be a march starting at Third St. and Route 1 with signs at noontime demanding 350 ppm be adopted. The PowerDown will be a challenge to the community to not use any fossil fuels for one day (or to reduce as much as possible), encouraging stagecoach (bus), carpool, bicycles, electric bike and walking. They will hold a teach-in with Jerry Mander, Steve Kinsey and other speakers to educate on global warming,the significance of 350 ppm and peak oil.
There will be live music and collaboration with West Marin Commons' Low-carbon Faire, featuring exhibits, free apple-pressed cider and Straus ice cream. Third street in Point Reyes will be blocked off to cars and bicycles will be parked in a special area with free valet parking. TWM will take a photo of the group with a 350 banner and people in the shape of 3, 5, and 0. There will be information tables for TWM and other vendors such as Mainstreet Moms and Permaculture Marin. CLAM will be holding an open house for their new energy-efficient renovation at 11560 Route 1 Point Reyes. West Marin Commons will follow the event with a barn dance in Tomales at 7 pm. This event plan is subject to change pending group suggestions and approval.

As part of Transition West Marin's International Day of Climate Action event in Point Reyes on Oct. 24, there will be a Emissions= Zero! Critical Mass Bike Ride. Transition West Marin members Sarah Hampton and Anny Owen, both of Bolinas, will be riding their bicycles from Bolinas to Point Reyes (14 miles) to demonstrate their demand that 350 CO2 ppm be included in the Copenhagen summit treaty this December.

They will be leaving at 8 am from the Bolinas School and arriving in Point Reyes for the Climate Action Demonstration and Rally. For safety sake, they truly hope to have a Critical Mass for the treacherous two-hour ride.
