[4539] 350 Item Pass-A-Long Challenge
Saturday, 24 October, 2009 (All day)
I invite people from across the globe to join me, virtually, in an action I'll call "The 350 Item Pass-A-Long Challenge." Whoever wants to participate simply has to gather 350 items they own but no longer use, photograph them in a cluster or catalogue them in a list, and then redistribute these items by donating or selling them. I will then display these photos or lists on Oct. 24. My hope in registering this action is that people wake up to the carbon footprint intrinsic in the things we hoard. When we have a bicycle we aren't using, if it just sits in our garage, that means someone else who needs a bike will purchase a new one -- so now we have two bicycles in the world where there could have been one. If we cultivate the pass-a-long habit, this will lower everyone's carbon footprint. This will have the added benefit of helping people realize they can live with less.
