Peddling Against Climate Change
Saturday, 24 October, 2009 - 11:00
We will cycle 1km for every ppm of CO2 above 350. That is about 37km! Peddling back the CO2 clock....
We will meet at the Cathedral in Uppsala and take a loop route in the sourounds of Uppsala, including around Gamla Uppsala and south alongside the river (more details below). The pace will be moderate leasurely, we want as many people as possible, so you dont need to be very fit! As far as possible we will stay on dedicated cycle lanes and smoother paths.
Please try if possible to find a way of displaying the number 350 as clearly as possible on your clothing or bike or helmet, to raise awareness of the 350 cause. Feel free to make extra banners/signs for photos and for displaying around town.
There will be 2-3 picnic breaks for snacks and rest, so feel free to bring some baking or other snacks to share around. Also bring drinks, warm clothing suitable for the conditions (think warm sox, gloves..), and helmets if you have them.
Hope to see you all there!
Christian
Further route info (this is not necessary to know, we will be in a group and I will have a few spare bike maps with the route marked if anyone needs them): We will start with a short slow ride through town (down V Ågatan, and across and up Drugarbrunnsgatan). We will then follow the river up, first on the east side, then up the west side. Head west on the bike path north of Bäryleden. A little detour in the Röbospåret park for the first picnic break (7km). Head further west past Gränby Ishallar, and around to Gränby Centrum (12km) where we will have another break (toilet facilities if needed). From here we will pass the Vaksala Church and head south behind Årsta to Stålgatan, continuing down past Ikea, under the rail line and back north to the bottom of Kungsgatan (about 22km). We will cross Kungsängsbron and head south along the river to Övre Föret for the second picnic break. Carry on south through SLU campus, across to Slädvägen in Valsätra and across to head north on Norbyvägen back to town.... Defrost the toes.
