"Growing Up Green", A California Green Jobs Corps Special Event, San Mateo County

Sunday, 25 October, 2009 - 12:00

Families of all ages, individuals interested in becoming GJC participants, and government officials are invited to the San Mateo County Green Jobs Corps kick-off event at the Coyote Point Museum for Environmental Education. This San Mateo County Green Jobs Corps special event is for all ages and will include provider exhibits, GJC activities, museum shows, and on-site GJC recruitment. This event is also registered as an action event with the 350 International Day of Climate Action.

The San Mateo County Workforce Investment Board is joining with partners in education, industry, community service, and environmental stewardship to launch the San Mateo County Green Jobs Corps. This innovative program will prepare and train approximately 150 participants, ages 16-24 that are eligible under the Workforce Investment Act, for careers in emerging green industries. The program will combine leadership building, education, community service, and training opportunities. Participants will also engage in key roles where they will design and lead community service and community education projects, including three community forums. Over 20 industry, education, non-profit, and government partners are collaborating to implement the San Mateo County Green Jobs Corps.

The San Mateo County Green Jobs Corps, 1 of 11 awardees from the State of California, is a federal stimulus funded project.
