Bell ringing at the Holy Trinity Cathedral
Saturday, 24 October, 2009 - 15:30
Churches throughout New Zealand will ring their bells at 3:50 pm on Saturday, October 24, ‘350 day.’
There will also be a bell-ringing event on the forecourt of Holy Trinity (Anglican) Cathedral, at the corner of Parnell Road and St Stephens Avenue from 3:30 pm onwards. All are welcome. Bring a hand bell!
Bell ringing is a time-honoured way of communicating important news to the local community - calling villagers to worship, celebrating weddings, announcing deaths, or warning of impending danger.
We are using bells to celebrate the wonder of creation, to warn of the threat of climate change and to call our political leaders to commit to responsible actions to mitigate the social and economic effects.
Sponsored by the Anglican church.
