Stony Brook 350

24 October 2009 - 12:00pm

Today at Stony Brook University we supported 350 by addressing a local issue that pertains to the much greater global initiative. The students of the Environmental Club and others protested outside the various inauguration events that occurred in celebration of our new president of the university, Samuel Stanley. Unfortunately President Stanley strongly supports the destruction of acres of forest to construct a hilton hotel while there other many viable alternatives that do not require cleaning woodland. He is also violating New York State SEQR law but not providing an Environmental Impact Assessment for the construction. The Environmental Club decided that 350 was the best day to object to this project because as we always say, "Think Global, Act Local." Attached is a picture of Environmental Club students holding our 350 banner in front of the forest that remains threatened.
