Tolling and gonging for change - Climate Action Fiji Style!
Saturday, 24 October, 2009 (All day)
The Pacific Conference of Churches in early August sent out a memo to its Member Churches to support the 350.org international campaign to shore up support for a just, fair and equitable climate deal in Copenhagen.
On the day PCC member churches have been requested to beat their traditional wooden gongs (lali's) at their churches 350 times. Climate change information will be made available on i) what the communities can do to lessen their climate impacts and ii) how people can lobby their governments to make a stronger stand on the upcoming negotiations.
PCC is liaising with youth groups, partner organisations (like WWF), prominent personalities in Fiji to participate on the day. A comprehensive media publicity campaign has been designed and will be rolled out two days prior on Thursday, October 22.
PCC will also use the day to raise awareness on its Pacific wide petition drive: Stop the Warming (refer to facebook campaign or www.pcc.org.fj)
