350 - Saving the Dead Sea (להצלת ים-המלח)

האירוע של "אקופיס/ידיד כדור הארץ" מארגן עירוע בינלאומית מסביב לים המלח. המשתתפים יתכנסו מהקהילות שלנו מסביב לים-המלח ונוספים שיגיעו לצורך האירוע משלושת העמים הגובלים בים המלח; ובאמצעות צילומי אוויר של ההתכנסיות בשלוש נקודות מסביב לים המלח ניצור אימאג' ענק של "350". בכל תצלום תהיה קבוצה של עשרות עד מאות משתתפים היוצרים שרשרת אנושית בצורת אחת של הספרות של 350 כלומר ( "0" או "5" או "3" )– זה יכול להיות תמונה מדהימה שתרכז תשומת לב אדירה להשפעות השליליות של שינוי האקלים גם על אתר מורשת עולמית כמו ים המלח.

ארגון "אקופיס - ידידי כדור הארץ מזה"ת", ארגון סביביתי ישראלי ירדני פלשתיני פועל משנת 1995 להגברת שיתוף הפעולה האזורי בפתרון בעיות סביבתיות ועל מנת לשפר את היחסים בין העמים באזור. באזור המזרח התיכון ההתחממות הגלובלית תגרום להגברת המחסור במים, להמלחה של קרקעות ולאובדן של שטחי חקלאות. בחרנו בים המלח שהנו אתר מורשת עולמית ושהתיבשותו והתופעות השליליות הנלוות לה (כמו הבולענים) קשורים למשבר האקלים, ואת מה שצפוי לאגמים על ספר המדבר.

התמונות ישלחו ויוקרונו יחד במסכי ענק בעצרות של אלפים בוושינגטון ובטיים סקוויר בניו-יורק, לצד תמונות מקבוצות דומות בכל רחבי העולם
(מפסגת ההאוורסט ועד לישבת קבינט מתחת למים באים המלדיביים).

לאחר הצילום משותף מהאוויר, יערך סיור (בהדרכת ב"ס שדה עין גד) ונעמוד על הקשר בין שינויי האקלים נסיגת ים המלח ותופעת הבולענים הפוגעת גם בהתישבות באזור.

אטובוסים ייצאו מתל אביב (רכבת מרכז) בשעה 9:00 בבוקר ומירושליים (בנייני האומה) בשעה 10:15 ויחזורו בסביבת 18:30.

The 350.org event will gather hundreds of environmental activists from our community project’s towns that reside around the Dead Sea, as well as others in Israel, Palestine and Jordan that will join in the effort; aerial photographs will show three gatherings of people around the Dead Sea, so that we will create an image of “350”. Every photo will include a group of tens or even hundreds of participants forming a human chain in the shape of the digits 350 (either “3”, “5”, or “0”). These photos can display a powerful image and bring enormous attention to the negative effects of
climate change.

Friends of the Earth Middle East (FoEME), an Israeli, Jordanian, Palestinian environmental organization, has been working since 1994 promoting cooperative efforts to solve common environmental problems and to improve relations between the peoples in the region. In the Middle East, global warming will cause water shortages, desertification, and loss of agricultural land. We have chosen the Dead Sea, a potential World Heritage Site that is shrinking from lack of incoming water, coupled with other related negative consequences (such as sinkholes). Dead Sea demise reflects unsustainable water consumption in the region which now, due to climate change and even less precipitation, is more unsustainable then ever. It also represents as a warning for what other lakes in semi-arid regions can expect, as result of climate crisis and unsustainable consumption.

The photos will be displayed, together with images from events all over the world, in Washington DC and Times Square, New York.

After the photography, guides from the Ein Gedi Field School will lead a tour of the Dead Sea sinkholes and discuss the connections between climate change and the shrinking of the Dead Sea, and their impacts on local communities.

When: Saturday October 24, 12 noon - Buses will leave from Tel Aviv (Rakevet Merkaz) at 9:00 am and from Jerusalem (Binyanei Ha'uma) at 10:15 am, and will return around 6:30 pm
