350t CO2 Action

Am 24. Oktober, dem Klima-Aktionstag, passiert gleich etwas Konkretes für den Klimaschutz: TheCompensators* ersparen der Atmosphäre 350 Tonnen CO2. Um 12.15 Uhr zerstechen sie in einer symbolischen Aktion einen mit Emissionszertifikaten gefüllten Ballon, der über dem Pariser Platz schwebt. Dadurch werden die 350 Tonnen CO2 mit einem lauten Knall zerstört. Die Emissionszertifikate in diesem Wert hat der Verein TheCompensators* mit Hilfe von Spenden aufgekauft und gelöscht – die Verschmutzungsrechte stehen der Industrie damit nicht mehr zur Verfügung.

TheCompensators* ist ein gemeinnütziger Verein, der seit 2007 Verschmutzungsrechte aus dem europäischen Emissionshandel löscht, damit sich Unternehmen nicht weiter billig vom Klimaschutz freikaufen können. Der Aufkauf von Emissionszertifikaten verteuert schmutzige Geschäfte. Mehr Informationen auf: www.thecompensators.org

On October 24th, the International Day of Climate Action, a concrete action for climate protection will be taken: TheCompensators* will spare the atmosphere 350 tonnes of CO2. In a symbolic act, they will burst a balloon filled with emission permits suspended above a stage at the Pariser Platz at 12.15pm. This way 350 tonnes of CO2 will be destroyed with a bang. The emission permits were purchased and deleted by TheCompensators* using donated funds – the pollution rights will no longer be available to industry.

TheCompensators* are a non-profit association which has been deleting pollution rights issued through the European Emissions Trading System, so that enterprises are no longer able to cheaply buy their way out of climate protection.
