***Louisville 350.org Climate Change Rally***
24 October 2009 - 2:30pm
The Louisville 350 Coalition -- dozens of environmental, peace, and social justice groups -- will hold a 350 event on Waterfront Park's Great Lawn on Saturday, October 24 at 2:30PM, as part of that day's worldwide effort to bring public awareness to the consequences of global climate change.
Scientists believe that 350 parts per million (ppm) is a safe level of greenhouse gases (GHG) in the Earth's atmosphere. The current level is 387 ppm. At the current rate of increasing emissions, scientists predict that the level will reach 487 ppm within 50 years, and create climate chaos that may be irreversible. It is everyone's responsibility to take action now for a sustainable future.
We will assemble for music, speakers, exhibits, puppets, and, at 3:50PM, spell out “350” with our bodies and be photographed by an aerial flyover.
Come be part of the solution! Everyone is welcome!

Understanding 350
- So, what is global warming and what's the problem anyway?
- And what does this 350 number even mean?
- If we're already past 350, are we all doomed?
- How do we create the political change to steer towards 350?
- How do we get the world on track to get to 350?
- How do we actually reduce carbon emissions to get to 350??
- Will this thing work? Will world leaders listen?
- Where did this 350 number come from?
- Isn't America the biggest source of the problem? What about China and India?
- 350 is just a number. Wouldn't "Climate Emergency" or "Clean Energy Now" be a better call to action?
- And what about all the other targets people are aiming for?
- Why October 24th?
- Why another organization--there are already too many things going on!
- Do you measure 350 in CO2 or CO2e?
