- What: Join with many others to send clear message to address climate change. We’ll be creating a huge human “350” (see below) on the green using hundreds of volunteers.
And organize your own church, school, club, synagogue to organize a ‘350’ event that day, and then come to the Green at 3pm. See 350.org for more ideas.
Also on the 24th..... Quaker Meetinghouse, 225 East Grand Avenue:
5 pm “Powerdown” video and discussion
6 pm Potluck Dinner
Bursting with insightful analysis and creative solutions to the twin challenges of climate change and peak oil, The Powerdown Show is an inspirational pointer to life beyond fossil fuels.
7-9 pm Transition Road Show - Greater New Haven Transition Initiative
We'll cover the problems (peak oil, climate change, economic meltdown) and solutions (creating sustainable community on a human scale). There will be entertainment, reflection, inspiration and dynamic participation all in one show!
We are also calling on people to begin to act now to address Climate Change!
Three things to do now:
1. Learn more. Go to www.350.org and
http://www.nature.org/initiatives/climatechange/files/connecticut_factsh...
2. Get in touch with your Congressperson. Tell them to support strong action to limit greenhouse gases. (See http://www.fcnl.org/energy/ for more information)
3. Simplify your lifestyle. Look into ways to cut your greenhouse gas production. Look into doing a Home Energy Audit

350 parts per million is what many scientists, climate experts, and progressive national governments are now saying is the safe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere. The bad news is we’re already past that number—we’re at 390 parts per million, which is why the Arctic is melting, why drought is spreading across the planet, why people are already dying from diseases like dengue fever and malaria occurring in places where they’ve never been seen before.
The good news: that number gives us a target to aim for. When the world’s leaders meet in Copenhagen in December 2009 to reach agreement on a new climate treaty, we need them to go farther than they’ve planned to go: we need to make sure they’ll pay attention to the latest science and put forward a plan that gets us back to safety.
For all of human history until about 200 years ago, our atmosphere contained 275 parts per million of carbon dioxide.
Organized by representatives of CTNOFA, New Haven Friends Meeting, Bioregional Group, New Haven/ Leόn Sister City Project, Greater New Haven Transition Initiative, Environmental Ministry Team of the Connecticut Conference of the United Church of Christ, etc.
