Criticism of the US State Department's handling of the Keystone XL pipeline reached its way into diplomatic circles today when the US was awarded a Fossil of the Day award at a meeting in Panama. The Panama Intersessional meeting is the last prior to Durban, the once annual climate summit where this year, all eyes are focused on the question of the fate of the Kyoto Protocol.
Each day at these talks, an award is given to the country that most obstructs the negotiations. Today, the award went to the US for three reasons, topmost among them being the cronyism that is setting back the Keystone decision.
