Vigil in North Bay
Between 70 and 80 people gathered at noon in front of the federal member of parliament's office on Main Street in downtown North Bay, a small city in northeastern Ontario, and were joined by Member of Parliament Anthony Rota, who spoke - along with several others - of the need for action now. Cheers at the news that all members of parliament in northeastern Ontario have signed the KyotoPlus pledge, and cries of "shame" that Prime Minister Stephen Harper has not. And a clear demand for a fair, ambitious and binding treaty that commits us all to a series of actions to reduce C02 to 350 ppm - or lower! The event was one of solidarity with each other, and in solidarity with those working so hard for justice in Copenhagen, and with those most threatened by the catastrophic effects of climate change around the world.
