VIDEO: Bill McKibben on The Colbert Report
Phew! Last night 350.org director Bill McKibben went head-to-head with Stephen Colbert--the conservative (and totally fictional) anchorman who hosts the nightly show The Colbert Report.
Everyone was a bit nervous and excited to see Bill get raked over the coals--many environmentalists have withered under Colbert's steely gaze and acerbic wit. We're happy to say that Bill held his own, and emerged from the interview with his dignity intact. If you missed it last night (or if you just want to re-live the glory) check out the video below:

Understanding 350
- So, what is global warming and what's the problem anyway?
- And what does this 350 number even mean?
- If we're already past 350, are we all doomed?
- How do we create the political change to steer towards 350?
- How do we get the world on track to get to 350?
- How do we actually reduce carbon emissions to get to 350??
- Will this thing work? Will world leaders listen?
- Where did this 350 number come from?
- Isn't America the biggest source of the problem? What about China and India?
- 350 is just a number. Wouldn't "Climate Emergency" or "Clean Energy Now" be a better call to action?
- And what about all the other targets people are aiming for?
- Why October 24th?
- Why another organization--there are already too many things going on!
- Do you measure 350 in CO2 or CO2e?

Kenosha is situated on Lake Michigan in an EPA designated Air quality Non- Attainment area, making this one of the best places to get everyone aware of 350, the magic number! More later on specifics!!

It was great to see Bill on Colbert. We're running a little poll about Bill's interview over at the Indications blog. Bear in mind that this blog is about environmental communication and culture, so our interest is in how effectively Bill communicated his message in the context of this particular show. What I wondered in the blog post was whether Bill should have adopted a more comedic tone. Please head over to vote, and even better, leave a comment with your thoughts on this important environmental communication event. Go 350!

Doctor Hansen who is the world's foremost authority has long since demonstrated to his fellow experts in the field that global warming is not only disastrously real but the result of human actions.

Very nicely done, and it's challenging to be interviewed by Colbert.
Actually, Colbert seems to understand the seriousness of climate change a lot better than Jon Stewart.

That was just amazing :)

Whether or not global warming is a reality or not is still yet to be seen.
Actually, Paul, there is a lot of evidence supporting this conclusion. It's the reason that the great majority of scientists argue that global warming is not only a reality, but that conditions are worsening.
The debate now is over the extent of the problem, and over the solutions, not over whether global warming is real. It is.

Hi Bill,
Good show on the Colbert program.
The good news about Peak Oil is that it will mitigate global warming. The bad news is that it will take a long time and the population will shrink (most on the planet will die).
