MassBike Spins Presents: Festive Bike Ride from Cambridge Common to the Boston Under Water 350 Festival on Saturday, October 24, 2009
What:
In observance of the International Day of Climate Action, we will assemble with our bicycles on the Cambridge Common. During a brief send-off rally we will learn about local efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We will then bike along Mass. Ave. into Boston. The bike route in Boston will turn left on Boylston Street and head toward the Christopher Columbus Park on the waterfront where we will end the ride, and folks are invited to join in the Boston Underwater 350 Festival. (http://www.350.org/node/5998 )
Who:
Everyone is invited. We anticipate between 50-100 participants. We will especially be publicizing this event among members of local climate and environmental groups, Green Decade Cambridge, Green Streets Initiative, Greenport, HEET (Home Energy Efficiency Team), Cambridge Bicycle Committee, Cambridge Local First, Cambridge-Somerville for Change, etc… (Email if you wish to help promote this event.)
Attendees who are not cycling to the Under Water Action will ride the subway to Haymarket or Aquarium stops to walk to the Boston event.
When:
Attendees will be invited to begin assembling at 1:00pm, and the rally will begin at 1:15 pm with a departure time of 1:30 pm. In the event of rain, leave bicycles at home and bring your umbrella and Charlie Card.
Where:
Cambridge Common (corner nearest to Harvard Square) for assembly and sendoff rally, and departure down Mass Ave. for cyclists. Others will ride the subway to join the Boston event. We will recommend that children under 10 only participate in the bike ride on a trail-a-bike, tagalong bike or in a trailer.
More Specifics:
As a MassBike Spins ride, cyclists will be required to follow traffic laws, wear bicycle helmets, and sign a liability form. Ride organizers will provide safety information prior to the ride, including a printed copy of the route and a reminder that bicycles are not allowed on the Rose Kennedy Greenway.
Please also feel free to promote this to others by word of mouth, list-serves, email blasts and other greener forms of publicity.
Sponsors include: Green Streets Initiative (http://www.gogreenstreets.org/), Green Decade Cambridge (http://greencambridge.org/greencambridge/) and many others. Plus you can help out if you buy a 350.org shirt or other gear here via the Cafe Press 350 Store.

Oh yeah, one last thing - Thanks go to Bill for inspiring me to get this going.
