A day-long event organized by Columbia University students who want to raise awareness for the cause of climate change, and more specifically, 350. If you live in Morningside Heights, in New York City or anywhere else, join us for a fun, interactive day on campus and help us give a big wake-up call to our community. It's time!
Oh, and President Obama: Your alma mater wants 350 at Copenhagen!

Hello everybody! It's time for an update. Green Umbrella and Eco-Reps, the two largest student environmental groups on campus have been tirelessly working on organizing a day of action that we hope will be educational, fun and inspiring for not just the student body, but our entire community. The event will be happening on Low Plaza and the main campus, from 11AM to about 6PM (If you want it to last longer, it will). Here's a brief summary of the day's planned activities:
11AM, Campus Wake-Up Call!: At 11 sharp, on Low Plaza, we will be kicking the student body and community out of bed with literally, a wake-up call. Percussion and music groups, musicians, the St, John's Cathedral bells and anybody who wants to join in on the fun will be gathering in one spot. and on the click of of the hour, we will unleash a wall of sound like you've never heard. So come, and bring what you have! Whether it's a chair, pots, a radio or your screams, it doesn't matter, as long as you bring as many people as you can. The bells of St. Johns will ring 350 times, and we will make noise that entire time.
11-6, Performances, Games and Speeches: All sorts of student and non-student groups are showing up in support of 350 on October 24th, and we'll be treated to environmental style dance, acapella, improv, music, and many more kinds of performances, interspersed with concerned speeches by student and community leaders and faculty. Tables will be set up under a tent representing activist, cultural, religious and any other kind of group that wants to be present (No matter when you read this, it is not too late! Shoot me an email at greg.tulchin@gmail.com if your group wants to table).
Eco-reps FoodMiles Game: Want to win a free dinner for two at a local foods supporting community restaurant? Then participate in the Eco-Reps FoodMiles scavenger hunt! Using the campus sundial as the center point of campus, you'll be sent on a search for an ingredient proportional to where supermarkets import it from (e.g the Eco-Reps avocado stand will be 1000 feet away if they are imported from Mexico 1000 miles away). Once you reach your target, you'll get to answer local food sustainability questions for bonus points, which will get you more free food. This'll be a really fun and educational way to get dinner paid for!
Bird's Eye View!: You may have seen Bird's Eye View's work on the 350 website: They are in the aerial art section, as they create huge 350 numbers out of recycled waste. We are collaborating with Bird's Eye as one of their many photo locations, and will be trash-diving this weekend to gather resources (If interested, greg.tulchin@gmail.com), and on October 24th, Low Plaza will be covered by the numbers we can't ignore.
350 Banner: Finally, the most important part. Our banner will be screened on the night of the 24th at Times Square, and we want to make it a memorable one. That's why we are making everybody at the event participate in creating the banner - with paint. Different colors will represent different pledges you make to better your own approach to environmental responsibility, and only through pledges will be able to create the numbers 350 on our banner. We need your help! Come out and join the fun, and bring as many people as you can! Our address is easy to remember: 350.org/CU@350. Thank you!
