350 Minutes of Climate Action: A Climate Action Festival
24 October 2009 - 1:30pm
Though we originally planned for our OCTOBER 24 CLIMATE ACTION FESTIVAL to be held for 350 minutes to further underscore the clamor for 350 PPM and for a strong and equitable climate deal in Copenhagen, the overwhelming support we have been receiving from the hardcore/ punk community has pushed the number of bands from eight to thirteen. As such, we have designed our climate action festival to be a whole-day affair that spreads out the activities.
It will feature (1) a hardcore/ punk show featuring bands that are supportive of environmental and climate justice; (2) a photo/ art exhibit on waste and disposables, and on individual perspectives of climate change (environmental and ecological issues such as deforestation, habitat destruction, and commodification of the commons, among others) and creative solutions to the ecological crises; (3) a screening and discussion of select documentaries/ short films on ecology, environment, consumption, climate change, and climate justice; (4) workshops on food and agriculture and climate change (with vegan and vegetarian cooking demo), and on composting, recycling, and zero-waste (with compost-making demo); (6) talks and open fora; and (6) a vegan and vegetarian potluck and feast.
As in our August 28 climate action, this will be a strictly no smoking, no drinking, zero-waste event. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own water bottles, utensils, and food containers.

We have decided to organize a series of events and activities leading to the climate action festival on October 24 to build awareness of the 350 agenda, and to foster familiarity and hopefully gather more support in time for the Global Day of Climate Action.
The first of these climate actions will be an art exhibit with film showing, discussions, and bands on August 28, Friday, 6PM, at the Picnic Pavillion of the Quezon City Memorial Circle. The files attached below are posters of and invites to this kick-off activity.
Because we want to "localize" the issue of climate change and look at its many facets, especially its relevance to everyday life, we have asked our friends from the Mamamayan Laban sa Aerial Spraying (MAAS) to talk about their plight and how aerial spraying has affected the environment.
As a way of sounding the call for climate justice and for the ratification of an ambitious, equitable, and binding climate treaty in the upcoming United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Copenhagen, we are giving a special screening of the documentary, The Age of Stupid, which had its global premiere last September 21-22, 2009. We are thankful that our friends at Greenpeace Philippines has agreed to lend us their copy of the docu-film.
Also, Mother Earth Foundation, a local environmental NGO, will conduct the workshop on composting and zero-waste for free in support of our advocacy. So we encourage Filipinos, especially those in the nearby areas, to come and join us on October 24, the Global Day of Climate Action!

Understanding 350
- So, what is global warming and what's the problem anyway?
- And what does this 350 number even mean?
- If we're already past 350, are we all doomed?
- How do we create the political change to steer towards 350?
- How do we get the world on track to get to 350?
- How do we actually reduce carbon emissions to get to 350??
- Will this thing work? Will world leaders listen?
- Where did this 350 number come from?
- Isn't America the biggest source of the problem? What about China and India?
- 350 is just a number. Wouldn't "Climate Emergency" or "Clean Energy Now" be a better call to action?
- And what about all the other targets people are aiming for?
- Why October 24th?
- Why another organization--there are already too many things going on!
- Do you measure 350 in CO2 or CO2e?
